There are turkeys and then there are turkeys – Slow growing, slow maturing, bronze free range turkeys are
the tastiest turkey you can have for your Christmas dinner.
Hatched in June and arriving with us as young poults, they are allowed to grow slowly and to reach full maturity so are twice the age of the average white intensively farmed Christmas turkey, with the result a superior flavour.
At Kemps farm they wander around their field having plenty of exercise, just as nature intended, foraging and investigating what is going on around them. At night they are housed in a straw bedded barn.
They are fed a high quality cereal diet, mainly grown on our farm, along with grass, apples from our orchard and even a few of our pumpkins!
Finally, on reaching maturity, the turkeys are dry plucked and game hung in temperature controlled chillers allowing a fuller flavour and texture to develop in the meat. All this takes time and so it costs more to produce, but we think it is worth it – why don’t you try one and see for yourself.
‘That was without a doubt, the best turkey we’ve ever tasted. Thank you’
Jenny N. Horsforth, December 2019
‘Just wanted to let you know that the turkey was just fantastic; has to be the best we have ever had. Thank you very much. It’s just great to be able to buy locally from people who are passionate about what they do and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend’
Paul & Imelda W. Malton, January 2020
We have a number of different strains of the bronze turkey which grow to different sizes enabling us to offer a range of sizes for your Christmas turkey or turkey crown. We present them boxed with full recommended cooking instructions and a thermometer – as these birds are slow growing they naturally put down fat which means not only is the meat more succulent but they cook a lot quicker than a white intensively farmed turkey.
